The
Golden Mount |
| The coutruction of the
Golden Mount took place under the decree and sponsorship of King Rama III
of the Royal House of Chakri and completed in the reign of King Rama IV
(aka. King Mongkut) in 1865. It was 100 meters high with around 500 meters
in diameter. |

Later in 1877, King Rama V (King Chulalongkorn) presided over the enshrining ceremony of the Buddha's relics brought from the Grand Palace on the stupa atop the Golden Mount. The King paid a visit to the Golden Mount again in 1899 to deposit the Buddha's relics the Kingdom had received as gift from the British Raj government of India. |
