Queem Cham Devi Monument

South of the Lamphun Market is a park with a shrine to Queen Cham Devi. the Queen was quite a remarkable woman. She was the daughter of the King of Luovo (now known as Lopburi) in the central plains, who left the kingdom in the seventh century to found Haripunchai, now known as Lamphun.

Wat Cham Devi
Lamphun

Just a short distance outside of the old city moat west of Lamphun is the temple of Cham Devi. The temple was founded in 755. The temple is extremely significant for its unusual chedi.
The chedi is lined with standing Buddha images, 60 in all. Each of the images is in a different pose and framed by an elaborate arch. The stupa is supposed to contain the ashes of Queen Cham Devi.
