Wat Kaeo

Wat Kaeo is an old temple otherwise know as Wat Rattanaram. The most important monument within the temple is a chedi called Chedi Wat Kaeo which is believed to have been constructed in the same period as Phra Borommathat Chaiya and Chedi Wat Long (between the 9th – 10th centuries A.D.) The chedi was built in brick without mortar in the Sri Vijaya style. It stands on a square base with 12 redented corners. There is a niche on each of the four sides, three of them housing images of the Buddha Subduing Mara. The niche on the eastern side forms an entrance into the so-called relic chamber of the chedi. An excavation as well as restoration was conducted by The Fine Arts Department during 1976 -1979.

	Wat Long Chaiya, Suratthani This is an old temple but of an unknown period of construction. It is believed to have been built in the same period as the pagoda at Wat Phra Borommathat Chaiya during 9th – 10th century A.D. The chedi had lain in ruins for a long time and only the base and a pile of bricks remained to be seen before it underwent an excavation as well as restoration by The Fine Art Department during 1981-1984
