Of
the numerous literary giants of Thailand, Sunthorn
Phu, perhaps, stands out most prominently and lovingly.
Born
in the Buddhist Era of 2329 (A.D. 1786), Sunthorn
Phu went through extra ordinary ups and downs of life, and finally
at the age of 70, passed away at the zenith of fame and prosperity.
Sunthorn
Phu left behind a legacy of more than twenty pieces of literary
compositions. Among them is the famous “Phra Abhaimani”
a tale whose famous characters are created here in life – like wax sculptures
for our visitors’ pleasure.
In
1986 Sunthorn Phu, the Best Beloved Poet
of the Thai people, was selected by the United
Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization as
one of the World Poets.
