In 1868 Prince Mahachulalongkorn became King Chulalongkorn at the age of 15. With his determination to abolish slavery in the Kingdom, King Chulalongkorn began the arduous task of slavery abolishment step by step.

           He bought a number of slaves with his own money and set them free as gesture of goodwill so that his subjects might emulate.
